Jay Post & Jimmi Gordon are Southside Chicago natives whose musical journey began long before they became a duo. Jimmi’s musical roots run deep, learning instruments like the guitar, bass and trumpet, while Jay found his voice in writing poetry from a young age. Their paths crossed in high school at Gwendolyn Brooks College Prep, where both joined the poetry club. It was there they first bonded over their shared passion for words, rhythm, and expression, eventually deciding to combine their talents and form the duo OutPastMidnight in 2019.

 

Before becoming a rap duo, they made waves in the poetry world, winning the Louder Than a Bomb competition, a testament to their lyrical skill and creative depth. They began crafting a sound that blends experimental themes, pushing boundaries and merging rap with a wide range of influences.

Since their debut, they’ve rocked venues like Gman Tavern and Reggies Rock Club, and performed for organizations like Social Works and John Walt Foundation. With over 3,500 listeners on Spotify, their growing fanbase speaks to the unique chemistry and passion they bring to every track. Their three projects and various singles have gained attention, including a feature at Lollapalooza 2022 & 2023 and a premiere on HBO Max’s SouthSide.

 

Now, as part of the OPM collective, they’re not just making music; they’re telling stories that resonate with those who’ve felt unheard.
